GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL/TRANSGENDERED RIGHTS INITIATIVE AT CEU

SINCE MOST OF THE MEMBERS OF OUR GROUP HAVE GRADUATED, THE GROUP STOPPED WORKING. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SEND AN E-MAIL TO GAYCEU@JUSTICE.COM

According to the higher principles of human rights, of respect for the human person and for human dignity, people are free in many ways, one of them being sexual orientation or sexual identity. These principles are acknowledged by the law systems of our countries; to a certain extent this has increased a lot over the past 10 years in Central and Eastern Europe. CEU fully acknowledges these principles in its Code of Ethics, where discrimination on basis of sexual orientation is declared to be unacceptable. Still, this is only the very beginning of a process, the end of which will be a FULL recognition of the rights and dignities of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people, not only at the legal but also at the personal level. Our initiative is meant to contribute on a local basis to this process.

Members are in no way obliged to declare or define their sexual orientation, nor are any assumptions to be made regarding members' sexual orientation.

OUR GOALS:

To promote and defend the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) members of our academic community by working to preventing any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or identity.
To fight against any kind of homophobia and to promote awareness about GLBT issues in out community.
To create a friendly environment for all people in the university community.
To promote general interest in GLBT studies and issues related to sexual orientation.

OUR ACTIVITIES:

We would like to attain our goals by:
- organizing public discussions, debates and lectures
- showing films on GLBT related topics
- encouraging people to openly talk to each other
- promoting and encouraging GLBT related academic activities

CEU condemns all forms of discrimination and harassment, whether subtle or overt.

Students who believe that they are victims of any form of discrimination or harassment have recourse to grievance procedures which are summarized in the Code of Ethics and its annexes.
